RoleDescription:

You’ll play a keyrole in developing and ensuring requirements for advanced submarinecontrol systems,shaping how critical platform technologies are designed, integratedand validated. You will produce technical documentation, definehardware and software requirements, and support designreviews—ensuring solutions meet programme, safety and performancestandards.

Working within a specialist Control & Instrumentationteam, you’ll contribute to SSNA platform development, usingengineering tools and system databases to oversee interfaces andfunctionality. You’ll also support verification activities andfunctional safety compliance (IEC 61508/61511), helping deliverinnovative, high-integrity systems that are vital to the success ofnext-generation submarines.

Coreduties:

  • You willdevelop and facilitate system requirements, ensuring clearacceptance criteria aligned to programme needs
  • You’ll produce detailed design documentation, includingdiagrams, calculations and technical justifications to supportengineering strategies
  • You support Certificateof Design activities, preparing evidence and presenting cleartechnical arguments to stakeholders
  • You’lldefine hardware and software requirements, guiding suppliers indelivering compliant and effective control systemsolutions
  • Your role includes overseeing systeminterfaces and delivering verification evidence to meet functionalsafety standards (IEC 61508/61511)

Essential Skills:

  • You demonstrate a relevant engineering degree(BEng/MEng or equivalent), ideally progressing toward professionalregistration
  • You will produce clear,structured technical reports across the engineering lifecycle tosupport design and assurance activities
  • You’llapply systems engineering values effectively within highly detailedenvironments, interpreting requirements and supporting technicalsolutions
  • Your experience includes systemcalculations, modelling and evaluation to inform design strategiesand performance outcomes
  • You bringunderstanding of control systems, instrumentationtheory (e.g. PID) or system architecture concepts
  • Knowledge of defence standards is beneficial, supportingcompliance within highly regulated engineeringprogrammes

TheCentralised Control and InstrumentationTeam:

You will be joining a teamof 16 engineers, that progress the design and validation ofcritical SSNA controlsystems across hardware, software and safety. Working on highlymulti-layered, safety-critical technology, the team ensuresreliable platform performance—offering exciting tasks, intricatework and ample opportunities for technical growth.

We offer relocation support packages across all Submarinesroles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
