Private Client Tax Senior Manager/Director

The role supports a mixed experienced team of tax professionals within Johnston Carmichael’s private client practice. The selected candidate will manage client portfolios, develop the team and deliver high‑quality tax and compliance services.

Responsibilities

• Manage client portfolios, build and maintain relationships with clients and their network.
• Provide high‑level technical and tax planning advice and work with other professionals as needed.
• Participate in day‑to‑day team operations, support leadership in setting and delivering strategic targets.
• Maintain up‑to‑date technical knowledge of business tax, personal tax and capital taxes.
• Mentor, train and delegate to team members; oversee portfolio delivery and ensure deadlines are met.
• Liaise with the client service team and colleagues in other disciplines to deliver coordinated service.
• Implement compliance with internal tax methodology, risk management and external regulatory requirements.
• Drive business development by identifying and promoting opportunities, sourcing new work and growing the department.

About You

• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence and positively impact others.
• High accuracy, attention to detail and a commitment to technical service delivery.
• Practical knowledge of compliance and advisory work, able to support the wider team.
• Preferred relevant experience in a similar senior tax role.
• Qualified CA (or equivalent) or above.
• Strong leadership and continuous professional learning.

Location: Within Scotland or Newcastle office. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK permanently without restrictions; visa sponsorship not available.
