Triage Nurse Assistant

Band 3 Clinical Support Worker (CSW) working as a Triage Nurse Assistant supports registered nurses in assessing, prioritising, and managing patients on arrival or at first contact. The role is key in ensuring patients are seen in a safe and timely manner by assisting with initial observations, information gathering, and care coordination.
Main Duties
- Perform basic clinical observations and monitoring.
- Assist with simple procedures (e.g. ECGs, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis).
- Prepare patients for further assessment or treatment.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
- Provide reassurance and support to patients and relatives.
- Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team (nurses, doctors, paramedics).
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient information.
- Update patient records and electronic systems.
- Assist with booking, tracking, and calling patients.
- Ensure documentation is accurate and timely.
Job Responsibilities
The Band 3 CSW is responsible for supporting registered nurses in the initial assessment and prioritisation of patients by gathering key clinical information, taking and recording observations, and identifying signs of deterioration. The role involves delivering basic clinical care such as carrying out routine tests, preparing patients for assessment, maintaining high standards of infection prevention, managing patient flow, and providing reassurance and clear communication to patients and families. Additionally, they are responsible for accurate documentation, updating electronic systems, and working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, always ensuring patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality in line with NHS policies.
Requirements
Essential
- Evidence of health care work in NHS.
- Ability to perform ECGs/observations.
Desirable
- Level 3 qualification.
