Senior Support Worker

Reporting to: Deputy Manager/Registered Manager

Job Overview

  • To provide care in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the direction of the Deputy Manager/Registered Manager
  • To support and enable Service Users to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering person-centred care unique to each individual.
  • To maintain skills at a current level, undertake such training and development as required from time-to-time to maintain and progress knowledge.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Role Specific Duties

  • Carrying out duties at all times in a manner consistent with the code of conduct issued by Ofsted and CQC, which specifically protects and promotes the independence, dignity and respect of young people.
  • Protecting the confidentiality of all information relating to young person or their family, and not divulging such information to anyone who is not authorised to receive it.
  • Carrying out duties at all times in a courteous, caring and sympathetic manner.
  • Carrying out duties at all times in a manner which has appropriate regard to the health, safety and welfare of both themselves and others and reports to the young person, (or other competent person) any equipment that is, or is thought to be, not in good working order.
  • Working with, and communicating information about the condition (or change in condition) and welfare of young people to relatives and other agencies and professionals in the support process, in a responsive, timely and appropriate fashion.
  • Respecting the beliefs and dignity of young people and their relatives at all times.
  • Being conversant with policies, e.g., health and safety, administration of medicines, confidentiality etc.
  • Reporting any complaints, accidents, problems or untoward occurrences to a competent person
  • Participation in ongoing staff training, including NVQ in Care, health and safety, manual handling, etc.
  • Taking control of difficult and urgent situations in a calm, sensible and professional manner.
  • Accepting responsibility for ensuring the delivery of support to young people in need.
  • Keeping Milestone Global Resources Ltd informed of any change in circumstances which may impact his/her employment, including any new offences (including motoring offences) for which he/she may have been cautioned, reprimanded or convicted.

Working with others

  • Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the organisation.
  • Work in cooperation with members of the multi-disciplinary teams to maximise opportunities for Service Users.
  • If desired by the Customer, maintain and develop relationships with family, friends, and other people important in their life.

  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Be a role model for other carers and be an ambassador for the service.
  • Be professional, polite, and reasonable at all times.

Personal Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of, and work within, the Fundamental Standards.
  • Understand the regulatory framework that governs the service, including the role of Ofsted and CQC and their requirements.
  • Commit to achieving the relevant qualifications commensurate with the role.
  • Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management.

Minimum Experience and/or Qualifications Required

  • Must be educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral + written) with fluency in English to at least level B1 on the common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale – IELTS Examination.
  • Have at least NVQ level 3 training in Health and Social Care or equivalent and/or must be ready to work towards level 3.
  • Ideally at least six to one-year previous experience in hospital or healthcare settings.
  • A formal DBS or police clearance record check by way of a basic disclosure which details any spent and unspent convictions that may be recorded against you (if you come from countries who need to take request for it).
