Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Fitter role based in Greater Manchester. The Mechanical Fitter will carry out mechanical fitting, assembly, and repair work on a wide range of rotating machinery and mechanical assets in the workshop and, when required, at customer sites. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical faults, dismantling and reassembling equipment, performing machining operations where required, and ensuring all repairs are completed to company quality and safety standards. The role also involves conducting preventive and scheduled maintenance, updating job records, and working closely with engineering and maintenance teams to meet turnaround times. The Mechanical Fitter is expected to follow all health and safety procedures, support continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient working environment.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong mechanical fitting and machinery skills, including experience with rotating equipment and mechanical assemblies.
  • Candidates should possess practical maintenance and preventive maintenance skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective repair and service routines.
  • Candidates should possess machining skills appropriate for workshop repairs, such as operating basic machine tools and working to precise tolerances.
  • Recognized engineering apprenticeship or vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, and to use hand tools and measuring equipment safely and accurately.
  • Good problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and safe working practices.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities, with flexibility to support varied tasks and occasional work at customer sites.
  • Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environment working with rotating machines is highly beneficial.
