The post holder will be based within the pharmacy department at Moorfields City Road site and will gain experience in the development and delivery of Pharmacy services within high‑cost therapies, outpatients and day‑care settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing a safe and efficient clinical pharmacy service in the pharmacy dispensaries, including dispensing high‑cost therapies and home care products.
  • Work with the Lead Pharmacy Technicians for High‑Cost Therapies and Clinical Services as well as Senior Pharmacy Technicians to manage and coordinate workflow in the dispensaries, monitor the quality of service provided, and promote the implementation of Trust initiatives for out‑patients and day‑case services.
  • Receive prescriptions from patients or day‑case wards, assemble medicines for individual outpatients, day‑cases and in‑patients, and give dispensed medications with appropriate instructions to patients.
  • Support stock control within the dispensaries, including ordering, receiving, distributing, and rotating stock.
  • Process prescription and over‑the‑counter payments where applicable.
  • Assist ward stock top‑ups, manage ancillary stock (bottles, bags, labels), and ensure all relevant Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) are available.
  • Maintain clean, tidy dispensing facilities, check expiry dates, and dispose of medications safely.
  • File prescriptions daily, answer telephone queries, and liaise with other pharmacy staff at City Road and network sites.
  • Handle returned medicines, record computer entries, dispose of unwanted or expired stock following Trust policies, and assist in acquiring medicinal stock from wholesalers.
  • Match delivery notes, orders, and invoices, arrange deliveries of medicinal stock to Moorfields network sites, and organise home‑delivery of prescription medicines to patients by post or courier.
  • Complete mandatory training and support the team in all standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Person Specification

Education / Qualification

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent, including Maths & English.
  • BTEC or NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical services or equivalent.

Experience

  • Recent experience of working in a Pharmacy.
  • Experience of working in a Pharmacy dispensary.

Knowledge (Desirable)

  • Medicines Management / Medicines Optimisation experience.
  • Ascribe / EMIS Dispensing system knowledge.
