An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician to join the Neurodevelopmental Team at The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for six months. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated and forward‑thinking team, committed to delivering high‑quality clinical care to children and young people across Chester.
As a Consultant colleague, you will be part of a wider paediatric workforce that includes 13 Consultant General Paediatricians and a range of other medical professionals within our fully integrated directorate.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with a broad range of professionals, including paramedical services (Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists), Specialist Nurses, Health Visitors and School Nursing teams.
- Engage with community services and local authority teams – including the Local Education Authority and Social Care – and voluntary sector organisations.
- Maintain strong and effective working relationships with secretarial, administrative staff and colleagues in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Participate in established clinical networks with Consultants at the regional tertiary centre, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
- Deliver paediatric neurodevelopmental care as part of the 3‑location service (Countess of Chester Hospital, Ellesmere Port Hospital, Tarporley War Memorial Hospital).
- Tailor specific roles and responsibilities to meet individual and evolving service needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should hold or be working towards a UK‑recognised medical degree and a specialty qualification in paediatric medicine. Experience in neurodevelopmental paediatrics or a related speciality is desirable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams are essential.

- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 473 general and acute beds.
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
