Position Overview
Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine, based in the Department of Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) at Leicester General Hospital. This is a less than full‑time post for 3–4 days per week (equivalent to 6.5 physical activity days). The role is available for a 12‑month locum term and is suitable for individuals on the Specialist register in SEM or within a six‑month period of obtaining a CCT in SEM.
The successful candidate will become a key member of an established multi‑disciplinary team comprising five Consultants, extended‑scope physiotherapists, speciality doctors, clinical nurse specialists and a podiatrist. Primary responsibilities include providing secondary care SEM services to the local population across sites in Leicester and Leicestershire, including Leicester Hospitals and the National Centre for Sport & Exercise Medicine at Loughborough University.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- Share responsibility with colleagues for the day‑to‑day management of patients.
- Promote new ways of working and coordinate care for patients in the community, ensuring services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff and be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
- Engage in teaching, research and administrative activities.
- Proactively develop the service.
- Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have MRCP, MRCGP, or an equivalent qualification, and be members or fellows of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine (UK).
- Comprehensive clinical experience in sport and exercise and musculoskeletal medicine is expected.
- A long‑term commitment to NHS SEM services in Leicester is anticipated.
