Overview

Deputy Facility Safety Case Owner (FSCO) supports the nuclear facilities at the Vulcan Naval Reactor Test Establishment (NRTE) of Rolls‑Royce Submarines. The role maintains a safety envelope, supports the FSCO team and ensures safe delivery of key site programmes, reporting to the Vulcan Chief Engineer and working with safety case practitioners and assurance staff.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain a safe envelope and provide safety oversight for the nuclear facilities and key site programmes.
  • Ensure safety implications are fully considered and changes are appropriately sponsored and approved through site due process.
  • Ensure the facility is optimised to comply with the As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) principle.
  • Provide practical and technical advice on applicable site safety management arrangements, facility and process safety cases taking account of enterprise and industry best practice.
  • Provide cover for the FSCO where comparative qualification to FSCO level is demonstrated.

Qualifications

  • Experience working within an engineering discipline; degree qualified in an engineering or science-based subject or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or other well‑regulated environment highly desirable.
  • Good understanding and demonstrable experience of safety case production, development and review.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interface confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to write well‑structured reports presenting clear arguments with a sound basis for recommendations.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to continuous improvement in challenging circumstances.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Professional registration through a recognised institute desirable.

Requirements

  • Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats; Rolls‑Royce will support application if not already held.
  • UK nationality required; dual nationals subject to additional scrutiny and background checks.
