Job Description:

Planning Lawyer – Nottingham (Local Authority Role)

Contract role – Hourly rate negotiable. Full time, 37 hours per week (considered for less). 1 day per week in office.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare s106 Agreements.
  • Prepare Highways Agreements under s38 and s278 of the Highways Act.
  • Analyse applications and draft certificates of lawful use.
  • Give general advice on Planning and Highways matters.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Analyse legal issues and make decisions with minimum supervision.
  • Organise own workload and work under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing; deliver concise advice and submissions.
  • Type and prepare letters and documents accurately; demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Teams and Zoom.
  • Work within the Council’s case management system and follow basic time‑recording practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience dealing with complex drafting work.
  • Ability to advise on policy and strategic matters.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience attending and advising at Planning Committee.
  • Knowledge of Planning Enforcement.
  • Knowledge of other Local Government practice areas such as criminal litigation (but not civil), licensing and regulatory law, constitutional and administrative law.
  • Willingness to learn and undertake highways work.

Junior Planning Solicitor – Nottingham City Council
