From September 2026 we are seeking a co‑facilitator for the 11‑13 Young Company at Southwark Playhouse.
Job Description
Southwark Playhouse Young Company is a series of weekly drama workshops for young people in South London aged 8‑18. The programme delivers drama workshops led by professional theatre makers and facilitators, developing participants’ skills, confidence and abilities and giving them an opportunity to meet others with similar interests. It culminates in a range of theatre pieces performed by the group at Southwark Playhouse and, where appropriate, venues in the local community.
The 11‑13 Young Company meets every Saturday during term time from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at Southwark Playhouse, totaling approximately 36 workshops in an academic year. The co‑facilitator works alongside an existing co‑facilitator and helps shape the programme. The pay rate is £120 per session, including planning.
Job Requirements
- Drama workshop facilitation experience of at least 3 years
- Experience working with young people or non‑professional participants in drama or arts contexts, including directing for performance
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, inclusive arts practice
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Strong people skills and the ability to work flexibly and creatively to meet participants’ needs and potential
- Positive response to unexpected challenges
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven ability to work with freelance artists and collaborate on creative projects
- Current enhanced DBS or willingness to apply
- Awareness and understanding of equal opportunities, confidentiality, health and safety issues, and safeguarding of young people
- Passion for drama and the arts
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver weekly workshops at Southwark Playhouse alongside a co‑facilitator
- Develop and rehearse performances and productions alongside a co‑facilitator
- Work closely with the Participation Team to plan Young Company activities
- Act as the main link between participants, the Assistant Facilitator and the Participation team during workshops
