Some of the most honest conversations a man ever has happen side by side, on a walk, with someone who gets it. That’s the idea MenWalkTalk (MWT) is built on, and it works.
We’re a men’s mental health charity running volunteer-led walking groups across the South East, with 22 walk-leaders, a growing network of supporters, and the ambition to reach every county in England, and then the UK. The foundations are strong. We’re now looking for our first permanent Charity Lead to take them further.
Why be our Charity Lead?
This isn’t a caretaker role. You’ll set the strategy from day one and lead the charity day to day, with the freedom to decide how MenWalkTalk grows and the backing of a Board ready to step back and let you lead.
- Own it. Shape the direction and the plan, and carry it through.
- Grow something real. Take a charity with genuine momentum and extend its reach, its income and its impact.
- Lead a community. Bring together a committed team of staff and volunteers who care about this as much as you will.
- Make it fit your life. Around 20 to 24 hours a week, hybrid, with the flexibility that suits an experienced leader who wants a substantial part-time role, and with scope for the hours to grow as the charity’s income does.
- Leave a mark. Your work here is measured in men who feel less alone, and in groups that wouldn’t exist without you.
Who we’re hoping to hear from
We’re looking for a senior leader who has run an organisation, or a meaningful part of one, and grown it. You’re comfortable owning both strategy and delivery, and confident with income and fundraising — trusts and foundations especially. You’re used to working with a board, and comfortable with the governance responsibilities of a small charity. You lead calmly, build trust quickly, and hold the whole picture without losing the human thread.
We’re also open to candidates who have the core of that and the potential to grow into the full role, with the Board’s support behind them. Importantly, you’ll need charity sector experience. A background in mental health or lived experience of mental health challenges is highly desirable. We care more about your track record and your values than your qualifications. Whoever you are, you’ll be comfortable talking openly about men’s mental health, including suicide.
Location
We’re based in Littlehampton. Staff work remotely, but we all come together in the office one day a week, and we’d want you there for it. Outside of this, you can work remotely and be present in Littlehampton as and when necessary.
