Band 5 Staff Nurse – Orthopaedic and Spinal

As an autonomous, team‑oriented Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will deliver evidence‑based care to orthopaedic and spinal patients, manage your workload, support junior staff, and participate in clinical governance across the 18‑bed ward.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality nursing care to orthopaedic and spinal patients.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized patient care.
- Monitor patients and respond to changing conditions.
- Recognise and respond to deteriorating patients and emergencies.
- Work collaboratively with consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with NMC guidelines.
- Support patients and families throughout their inpatient journey.
- Maintain accurate patient records.
- Supervise and support Healthcare Assistants, student nurses and junior staff.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
Experience
- Experience within orthopaedic and/or spinal surgery nursing.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to recognise and respond to deteriorating patients.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proactive and organised approach to workload management.
- Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous professional development.

Location and Hours
