Job Overview

Project Manager (Academy) – Band 6This job is offered on a fixed‑term basis for 12 months. The description refers to two separate roles; this application is for the Academy only.

Role Summary

We are looking for an organised, proactive Project Manager to join the Health Innovation West of England Academy. The Academy helps people across health and care develop the skills, confidence and networks to lead improvement. We design and deliver practical learning programmes in quality improvement, innovation and leadership, supporting staff to make meaningful changes that improve care for patients and communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the operational delivery of Academy programmes, workshops and events.
  • Organising face‑to‑face and online learning, including workshop logistics, learning resources and participant communications.
  • Building positive relationships with people.
  • Monitoring activity, maintaining accurate records and supporting evaluation, impact measurement.
  • Producing reports, presentations and communications for a range of audiences.
  • Working with colleagues across communications, events, insight and evaluation to ensure programmes run effectively.
  • Supporting the organisation of the Academy team and contributing ideas for improvement.
  • Championing co‑production, equity, inclusion and anti‑racist practice throughout our work.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop facilitation skills and support the delivery of workshops and online learning.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience of project and/or contract management.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies.
  • Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health/social care/academic/innovation services.
  • Knowledge of the health and social care system or other areas within which Health Innovation West of England operates and current priorities.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Able to work independently as required.
  • Excellent keyboard skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Able to clearly communicate complex information verbally, in writing and electronically in appropriate formats.
  • Knowledge and understanding of confidential information management.

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience of working in healthcare, academia, innovation, VCSE sector, or another environment within which Health Innovation West of England operates.
  • Quality improvement qualification or experience in working or supporting QI projects.
  • Experience in supporting events both small (30).
  • Understanding of anti‑racism and commitment to furthering equity in healthcare.
  • Good understanding of Verto or a similar project management software solution.
  • Good understanding of using Zoho or a similar CRM system.
  • Experience of coordinating and chairing meetings.
  • Experience of client relationship management.
  • Experience of using Canva or other design software.
  • Experience of supporting communications campaigns and/or communities of practice/networks.

  • Physical/mental: willingness to comply with travel requirements, including regional and national journeys and occasional overnight stays.

Work Environment & Travel

We offer flexible hybrid working, combining home working with regular attendance at our Bristol office and travel across the region to support workshops, events and partner meetings. The post requires regular travel within the Health Innovation West of England region and occasionally nationally, including overnight stays.
