About the role
Join our Young People Service to support the expansion and development of the Skills and Education offer, with this exciting opportunity. You would be joining a high‑performing and innovative team, committed to improving outcomes for children and young people, many of whom have not had successful experiences in education or are not in education training and employment. Whilst sat under the Youth Justice structure, this role will also support children from across the Young People’s Service as a whole. You would be managed by the Youth Justice Education and Skills Manager and would be a key member of the wider Education and Skills Team. In addition to this, you would be joining our current specialist tutor in the expansion of an outstanding tutoring team.
We currently have 1 full time permanent position at grade 8.

About you
We are looking for someone who celebrates the strengths of our young people, finding creative and innovative strategies to support those who require additional help to do so. Within our service, we believe passionately in the power of positive relationships, and it is imperative that the person in this role will successfully build these in a trauma and attachment informed way. This person will use these positive relationships to motivate young people to bring about positive change, supporting a future with high aspiration and positive outcomes. The post requires someone who is kind, consistent and compassionate about everyone they work with.
You will be working in a challenging but supportive environment, working in small groups as well as through 1:1 delivery styles. You will be designing and delivering a varied and highly bespoke curriculum that meets the needs of children with a range of complex needs. The post will require innovative and engaging delivery styles to support children developing a passion for learning and raising aspirations.
You will work with the education and skills team, to drive forward the alternative provision and accreditation agenda in the hub. This role also includes the tracking of achievement and progress, celebrating each child’s strengths and growth, which can be shared within their professional network. It is therefore particularly important to bring a creative and innovative approach to the work, finding engaging ways for children to demonstrate their strengths and to capture evidence of progress.
The successful candidate needs to have an excellent understanding of developing positive relationships with the children in our care. This is particularly important as we grow our provision to ensure we have the role model, support and most importantly passionate practitioners around our young people.
We will give you the training and development you need to be at the forefront of classroom delivery for children with a number of barriers to accessing education. You will work alongside experienced, committed and enthusiastic staff, focused on child‑centred and trauma informed practice.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people with complex backgrounds and challenging behaviours. They will be able to implement a variety of approaches to bridge any potential learning gaps, have experience working in school environments, delivering teaching sessions with groups of children, and understand the complex educational landscape to support our education colleagues in the reintegration of children to education. The candidate will also be familiar with educational progress measures, to support the delivery of target setting and goals for both our school colleagues and the Laser accreditation pathways for all children across the young people service.

Our young people’s hub where you will be based has been designed by young people and is an amazing place to work. It has a common room, a kitchen, a music room and a skills area where young people can learn to be a barista, bike mechanic, hairdresser and much more! We hope to increase the activity and learning space as we grow, with a new innovative classroom space due to be opened in September. We are looking for someone that has aspiration and vision, to join a team passionate about achieving great things and making a significant impact on improving opportunities for the children in our city.
What we can offer you
Salary: The salary band for this role is £37,280 – £40,778 per annum. The starting salary is £37,280 with annual progression through the salary bands.
