Contract Length: Fixed term, 2 years.

Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts.

Day shifts: 6am-6pm (2 per week) and night shifts: 6pm-6am (2 per week) with 6 days rest. Continuous shift pattern throughout the year. Annual shutdowns last about one week, with mandatory additional shifts for all operators. A 24‑hour shutdown occurs every five weeks.

Annualised Hours: 2087 hours per annum including holidays; excluding holidays, 1831 hours worked.

Operate the paper manufacturing process to achieve good efficiency, drive continuous improvements and work with maintenance to resolve issues. Support the shift manager and Level 1 ensuring H&S, environmental and quality compliance.

Working Conditions

Work may occur in hot, dusty, wet, and noisy environments. Some circumstances may involve confined spaces or work at height.

Responsibilities

  • Health and Safety:
    • Carry out H&S audits in your area of responsibility during your shift, reporting any issues to the shift manager.
    • Actively drive H&S standards within your area of responsibility.
    • Propose H&S improvements to your shift manager / Level 1 operator and help implement them.
    • Use the electronic permit issuing system, work party team member, sign‑on risk assessments and serve as Isolation Technician.
    • Provide feedback on standard operating procedures where deficiencies are found and communicate to the shift manager and Level 1 operator.
    • Ensure all mandatory training courses are completed where required.
  • Environment:
    • Understand procedures for managing potential environmental threats and report to your shift manager / Level 1 operator.
  • Quality:
    • Perform quality checks; if the product does not meet required specifications, report to shift manager / Level 1 operator for escalation.
    • Drive the ECO process ensuring team compliance.
  • Operational Tasks:
    • Operate the paper machine process ensuring efficient operation.
    • Carry out quality checks where required.
    • React correctly to alarms, actioning and reporting as required.
    • Support Level 1 operators in safe and efficient start‑up and shutdown of the plant.
    • Support Level 1 operators on maintenance shutdowns ensuring required tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
    • Manage housekeeping, ensuring daily tasks are completed and the highest standards are maintained.
    • Focus on continuous improvement, suggesting improvements to your shift manager / Level 1.
    • Carry out total preventive maintenance and shift routines, plant walks identifying and reporting issues.
    • Support Level 1 operators in resolving problems and finding solutions to current issues.
    • Form part of the emergency response team, ensuring all training is completed as required.
    • Support the shift manager and Level 1 operators when required.
    • Step up as a Level 1 when the ability allows (matrix sign‑off).
