Senior Software Engineer

Salary

£70,000 – 90,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong academic background in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Scientific Software, or a related field.
• Strong software engineering skills in modern languages, ideally Python and Rust.
• Experience designing systems and the APIs between them, including services that coordinate work, manage state, and handle failure.
• Focus on code quality.
• Experience with cloud computing or HPC job management, such as Slurm.
• Experience with identity and authorization flows such as OIDC or OAuth2.
• Experience deploying containerized services on Linux, such as Podman.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Ansible or OpenTofu.
• Experience with modern Python tooling and packaging, such as uv.
• Experience with data storage and pipelines, including large simulation results and model serving.
• Experience with APIs, REST, WebSockets, or frameworks such as FastAPI.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with engineers and scientists to help design the platform layer.
• Design systems and the APIs between them.
• Build services that coordinate work, manage state, and handle failure.
• Contribute to the development of a cutting-edge platform for optimizing complex engineering systems.
• Apply strong software engineering practices with a focus on code quality.
• Support platform and backend engineering across cloud, HPC, identity, containerization, and data pipeline concerns.
