A leading UK law firm is seeking an ambitious and commercially focused Data Protection Solicitor to join its highly regarded Data, Privacy & Cyber team in Manchester at Associate/Senior Associate level.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing practice recognised within the legal directories and known for advising on complex, high profile and innovative data protection, privacy and technology matters.
The role will focus primarily on advisory data protection work, with opportunities to gain exposure to cyber and technology related matters where desired.
The Opportunity
You will advise a broad portfolio of clients across sectors including financial services, insurance, retail, technology and major corporates. The work spans domestic and international data protection compliance, digital transformation programmes, AI governance, regulatory investigations and data strategy projects.
Working alongside recognised specialists in the field, you will support clients in navigating evolving regulatory landscapes while helping them implement commercially effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on UK and international data protection and privacy compliance matters.
- Supporting digital transformation, data governance and AI implementation projects.
- Drafting regulatory submissions and responses to supervisory authorities.
- Assisting with regulatory investigations, enforcement matters and contentious data protection issues.
- Working closely with colleagues across technology, commercial and regulatory practices.
- Building and developing strong client relationships.
- Supporting and leading business development activities, client initiatives and thought leadership.
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers and trainees.
About You:
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent).
- Strong experience advising on data protection and privacy matters within private practice or in house.
- Excellent knowledge of UK GDPR, data protection legislation and broader privacy regulation.
- Strong drafting, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A commercial approach and the ability to provide practical, risk based advice.
- Experience managing client relationships and multiple workstreams effectively.
- Exposure to cyber incident response, breach management or regulatory investigations would be advantageous.
- An interest in AI governance, emerging technologies and digital regulation.
