Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) is the design and build unit of the global engineering consultancy Mott MacDonald. We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer to support the delivery of a major programme of work for one of the UK’s largest water and sewerage companies, Northumbrian Water. In this role you will work within multidisciplinary teams that include electrical, mechanical, civil and process designers and will be responsible for the design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non‑infrastructure projects through outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of process design deliverables, including process models, mass balances and control philosophies.
  • Provide technical assurance of process designs carried out by others, ensuring compliance with framework standards and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation to meet whole‑life cost and net‑zero drivers.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout all design stages, construction and thereafter.
  • Engage positively with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one‑team approach to support their objectives.
  • Support the development of the process engineering team by coaching, mentoring and identifying appropriate resources for projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Chartered or incorporated membership of a professional institution (e.g. ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • A methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the operational region.

Additional Experience (Optional)

  • Experience and understanding of water and/or wastewater unit processes and treatment plant, with delivery of process design for wastewater projects.
  • Experience of HAZOP studies as chair or team member.
  • Strong clean water non‑infrastructure experience.
