Location: London (London Broadcasting House) – Hybrid* 1 day per week in the office
Proposed Salary Range: £43,500–£54,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

The team works a mostly flexible schedule – core hours are 10am – 4pm. We have one mandatory office day a week, which is currently Tuesdays but may vary.
Interview Process
Stage 1: The selection process will consist of two stages.
- 1 hour coding assessment designed to evaluate technical proficiency.
- Final Stage: 1 hour comprehensive interview comprising:
- A 15‑minute technical presentation, and
- A 45‑minute blended competency‑based interview focused on values, behaviours and technical ability.

Join the BBC Video Audiences team to work on delivering innovative ways for BBC users to discover more of our world‑class catalogue of audio and video programmes.
As a software engineer, you will play a key role in executing the migration from our legacy framework to a new pan‑BBC architecture, impacting millions of BBC users in the UK.

Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
- Work with project, product and technical leads to design software that meets complex product and business needs, creating implementable specifications and tasks at feature and component level.
- Enforce best practices in code quality, testing, and documentation using modern tools and frameworks (e.g. React).
- Participate in the team’s software development methodologies, such as pairing, code and documentation reviewing, and continuous delivery.
- Learn new technologies and stay informed of existing ones.
Essential Criteria – Your Skills and Experience
- Good understanding of TypeScript, CSS, React and Node.js.
- Experience with testing frameworks and utilities such as Mocha and Sinon.
- Experience writing and maintaining robust production software in a fast‑changing environment with rapid release cycles.
- Experience building and maintaining infrastructure on cloud platforms and implementing resilient CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in pair programming, TDD and agile processes.
Desired
- Experience developing on AWS.
- Experience with GraphQL and RESTful APIs.
- Out‑of‑hours/on‑call engineer experience.
- Responsibility for delivering tasks to completion.
- Several project experiences in a professional software development environment (including testing, design and release).
