About the Role
Position: Software Engineer – R&D Department
Salary: c£42,000 DOE
Location: Sheffield/Hybrid remote working
We invite you to join our award‑winning R&D team, where research and development work closely with Product Support to create cutting‑edge software solutions for high‑profile customers such as Disney, Netflix, HBO and others. The Software Engineer will work on codebases across the stack, respond to senior developer requests, and deliver high‑quality products and services.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Planning, writing, maintaining, testing and documenting code across the stack for ZOO’s software platforms
- Developing and providing software components that operate within a large multi‑process system
- Managing a portfolio of projects while keeping communication channels with senior developers and project managers open
- Providing technical insights on codebases
- Developing features with clean, efficient code consistent with internal coding standards
- Delivering to deadlines in line with ZOO’s quality standards
- Automating tasks through appropriate tools and scripting
- Reviewing and debugging code to ensure high quality before submitting to repositories
- Identifying and championing appropriate technologies to complete software development tasks
- Taking ownership of features/products as appropriate, demonstrating pride in your work
- Assisting with task planning and estimation
- Collaborating with internal teams such as DevOps and QA to fix and improve products
Requirements
We are looking for bright, experienced Software Engineers who are passionate about technology and pride themselves on excellent standards. The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Strong programming experience in one or more Object‑Oriented languages
- Commercial full‑stack development in an Agile environment (preferable)
- Experience with backend and frontend web development technologies
- Knowledge of database technologies (preferable)
- Good understanding of software engineering processes and methodologies
