High-quality data is essential to understanding community risk, targeting resources effectively and supporting informed decision-making across the service.

As a Data Quality Officer, you will help ensure the information used to support these activities is accurate, consistent and reliable, enabling WMFS to deliver its aims and ambitions and make a tangible difference to the communities protected by our 38 fire stations.

About the role

As Data Quality Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and improving the quality of data used within the Risk Management team. You will help ensure information is accurate, consistent, complete and fit for purpose, supporting both operational activities and strategic planning.

Working closely with Community Risk and Performance Analysts, ICT colleagues, operational staff and external partners, you will identify and resolve data quality issues, support improvements to data collection and management processes, and promote good data governance practices across the organisation.

A key part of the role will be engaging with colleagues to improve understanding of data quality requirements. You will provide guidance, training and support to users, helping to ensure information is captured and maintained consistently. You will also be expected to challenge existing processes where appropriate, recommend improvements and build effective working relationships to drive positive change.

The role is based at our headquarters in Birmingham, with a requirement to attend fire stations and other WMFS locations to deliver training and support data quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • quality check the Internal Recording System, IRS, and other datasets to identify known or emerging data quality issues
  • engage with operational staff to support data corrections, respond to data quality queries and provide on-site training to develop quality assurance
  • help ensure data is captured, maintained and stored in line with required quality and legal standards
  • report on data quality issues using Power BI
  • monitor and action the Fire and Rescue Data Platform (FaRDaP) failed submissions queue
  • complete reviews of aspects of FaRDaP, including question and answer lists
  • liaise with Community Risk and Performance Analysts and ICT teams to support and maintain the internal IRS
  • liaise with the MHCLG FaRDaP helpdesk where required
