Job Description:

Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for Software Engineer – Java to join our ever‑evolving WPG team and help shape the future of global commerce. Whilst web development skills are crucial, a background payments and fintech would be extremely beneficial.

What you’ll own

  • Design and develop solutions in Java, SQL, and PLSQL for an eCommerce payments gateway as part of a team, in line with the needs of a high‑capacity mission‑critical 24/7 service with 5 nines uptime, product specifications and business value drivers, Worldpay architectural and software engineering principles, and department standards.
  • Manage code quality, agile practices, and technical debt control.
  • Collaborate closely with software and QA engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing and mentoring.
  • Work with engineers in the UK and US, contribute to retrospectives, resolve technical debt, and improve team and department practices.
  • Provide periodic availability outside normal office hours for release support and deployment.
  • Work collaboratively along the entire SDLC with team, solution designers, release teams, support, and the business to refine, release, and run software solutions.

What you’ll bring

  • Ability to build secure, clean, and testable Java‑based distributed applications in a Linux development environment.
  • Firm grasp of relational database concepts (e.g., Oracle) and appreciation of architecture and industry design patterns.
  • Dynamic can‑do attitude, collaborative teamwork, and ability to prioritize under pressure.
  • Take pride in work and encourage others.
  • Experience with large code bases and version control systems.
  • Experience with Linux as development and production environment.

  • Interest in innovation, BDD, best‑of‑breed engineering practices and tools, and ability to communicate advantages to peers, stakeholders, and users.
  • Interest in AI and ability to use any AI tool in day‑to‑day work.
  • Familiarity with agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and knowledge of benefits and pitfalls.
  • Experience in global online business or knowledge of cryptography and secure inter‑application communication principles, high availability, high capacity, mission‑critical systems.

You will join one of our cross‑functional teams containing developers, testers, scrum master, product owners and analysts. Each team owns its backlog from kick‑off to post‑live, follows agile practices, and delivers continuously with tight feedback loops.
