As our new Principal Air Quality Consultant, you will provide air quality services for internal and external clients covering industrial, residential and commercial development projects, and assist in the development of junior staff. The role will involve the undertaking of national and international projects. Therefore, notwithstanding that the position will be predominantly desk‑based, occasional travel may be necessary. To succeed in this role you must have experience in undertaking and managing complex air quality assessments and a desire to make a positive difference to future developments. Candidates can be based within a reasonable commute to our London, Birmingham or Manchester offices; we offer flexible hybrid working. Other locations can be considered but are not guaranteed.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Deliver and help manage air quality projects as part of a multi‑disciplinary team or as standalone projects
- Provide support to the air quality and climate service line leaders
- Support and manage junior staff to assist in the delivery of air quality projects
- Keep up to date with the latest developments, regulations and standards appropriate for air quality assessments
- Represent, or support others in representing Ramboll’s air quality services to external stakeholders, external presentations and contributing to market‑facing initiatives
- Support the winning of new air quality projects by preparing effective technical proposals, taking an active role in the development of our air quality services, supporting the upskilling of colleagues and by strengthening relationships with new and existing clients
- Support the development of new tools and techniques to improve the delivery of air quality services
Your new team
You will be part of our Air Quality & Climate department and help provide day‑to‑day management of air quality assessments, assisted by more senior colleagues. You will be part of a worldwide practice, characterised by the highest level of technical and scientific skills, informed by the specific needs of our clients. In the UK we work on a wide variety of air quality projects including environmental impact assessments of major developments, large infrastructure schemes, urban developments and assessments of industrial emissions for both planning and permitting. Other work includes dust and odour nuisance assessments, air quality monitoring projects, international ESHIA projects, and indoor air quality assessments.

These include:
- Demonstrable track record of delivering air quality assessments within the UK for a wide range of schemes
- Experience with using Air Dispersion Models (i.e. ADMS, ADMS‑Roads) and the application of GIS packages for digitisation of data input and output

- Ability to interpret environmental guidelines, policies, plans and legislative requirements and assess their applicability to the project to identify appropriate solutions

Personal qualities that will help you succeed in this role include strong technical skills with a focus on air quality modelling and assessment. You will lead workstreams with limited supervision ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently. By the very nature of the work, it is essential that you will have strong organisational and communication skills, an eye for detail, and a willingness to undertake work away from the office occasionally.
