About the role

We support the heart of the organisation – our stores – and run programmes that improve store operations by leveraging technology. Stores Foundations runs complex initiatives that impact both the physical stores and the Retail Platform, the foundation of Tesco Technology comprising a mesh of systems and APIs.

In this role you will work with Product Managers, business stakeholders, Engineering teams and other programme family members to define and deliver changes that embed new technology into stores, preparing them for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a part of the Stores Foundations programme budget.
  • Communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Manage dependencies with engineering teams supporting the Stores Foundation systems.
  • Support and manage technology vendor partners.
  • Prepare business cases and secure funding for the programme.
  • Deliver programmes with business and/or technical risks.
  • Apply a standard programme delivery methodology (e.g., agile, waterfall, iterative) to achieve goals.
  • Coordinate and energise virtual technology teams to deliver programme objectives.
  • Create and track a comprehensive plan, including the technical implementation plan.
  • Identify trade‑offs, assess impacts, and communicate decisions to Product, Infrastructure or Engineering.
  • Manage cross‑team dependencies to provide transparency and visibility for key outcomes.
  • Understand technical architecture to foresee impacts on dependencies, timelines and plans.
  • Apply best practices and infrastructure knowledge to anticipate delivery challenges.
  • Effectively manage incidents and perform post‑incident reviews, communicating outcomes and follow‑ups.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to define annual budgetary requirements.
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support complex rollouts or installations.
  • Coach peers and colleagues on methodology and programme management tools.
  • Model Tesco Values & Purpose in daily work.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven record of delivering technology and/or infrastructure programmes across multiple teams and geographies.
  • Strong ability to build credible relationships and influence senior management and leadership teams.
  • Excellent project, stakeholder and programme management skills.
  • Proficient vendor management and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional reporting skills for programmes and financial forecasting.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and adaptability to change.
  • Experience working with geographically diverse teams.
