If you combine a genuine passion for the outdoors with a natural flair for community building and storytelling, we’d love to hear from you.
TimeOutdoors is on a mission to build the UK’s biggest community for people who want to get outdoors, be active and build a habit that makes them feel better all year round. We work with charities, event organisers and adventure providers including some of the biggest and most recognisable brands in the sector, helping them reach new audiences for their events, challenges and trips.
We’re a small, close-knit team based in Yorkshire, punching well above our weight. If you’re passionate about the outdoors and want your work to make a real difference, read on.
THE ROLE
We already have 1000’s of people using the site to find local events, sign up to their next personal challenge, join a charity team for events like the Great North Run for a cause that matters to them or seek adventures further afield. And later this year our community One Million Challenge will reach its target of 1 million hours spent outdoors – a milestone event.
All of this is already happening – your job is to give it a voice and turn that momentum into stories. You’ll sit at the intersection of content, community and marketing, inspiring people with authentic stories that make them want to get active outdoors. You’ll own our community, our voice and our stories – doing what only someone embedded in the community can do.
What success looks like
The website becomes a thriving community platform for people of all ages and abilities who want to put outdoor activity at the heart of a healthy, active lifestyle. Community stories act as a source of inspiration to other people looking to get active outdoors and help to add real value to our advertisers and partners.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Own and build the community
- Own our social media channels — Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and beyond — with a consistent, inspiring presence.
- Respond to, celebrate and amplify community activity — sign ups, finish lines, fundraising targets, challenges, club spotlights, personal bests.
- Create and manage an email newsletter that keeps our audience informed, motivated and connected.
Tell great stories
- Seek out and produce compelling participant stories — written, visual and video — that bring the platform to life.
- Commission and edit content from the wider outdoor community.
- Write short-form content such as event guides, destination guides and activity inspiration to help motivate people to get involved.
Drive B2C revenue growth
- Work with the wider team to optimise the B2C journey from first visit to shortlist to maximise sign-ups and bookings.
- Use data and audience insight to understand what content drives engagement and act on it.
- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure advertiser activity is showcased compellingly to the community.
Support the B2B team
- Post regularly on LinkedIn to keep advertisers and partners aware of our platform activity and audience growth.
- Produce social proof content — testimonials, stats, case studies — that strengthens the B2B sales proposition.
- Help develop content so it performs well and tells a great story for our partners.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- A genuine passion for getting active outdoors and for active lifestyles — you live it yourself.
- Proven experience in community management, content creation or social media — ideally in sport, fitness, outdoor or lifestyle.
- A strong, versatile writer who can adapt tone and style across formats, including short-form social, long-form editorial and email newsletters.
- Confident across social media platforms and email marketing tools.
- Proactive and takes ownership — you spot what needs doing and get on with it, rather than waiting to be told.
- Commercially aware — you understand that engagement should ultimately help the business grow.
- Comfortable in a growing business where priorities shift, and you genuinely enjoy working closely within a small team.
- Organised, self-motivated and comfortable managing your own workload across office and remote days.
- Data-aware — you understand what the numbers are telling you and use them to improve.
- Experience with SEO or content strategy.
- Basic video or photography skills — enough to produce authentic, on-the-ground content.
- Familiarity with CRM or email platforms such as Mailchimp, HubSpot or similar.
- Experience working with or within events, charity challenges or outdoor brands.
BENEFITS
- £30,000-£40,000 starting salary depending on experience
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Subsidised entry fees for events on the platform
- Monthly team lunches and quarterly away days
- A collaborative, values-driven team that’s genuinely passionate about what we do
How we work
We’re a hybrid team that values face time. The energy and creativity that comes from working together in person is central to how we operate — especially while we’re growing — so whilst the role is remote, there will be regular team days in Yorkshire.
