Overview

The Specialist Medicine Therapy Team at the Royal Derby Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to work within the team. You will work closely with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and other Support Workers, providing treatment to a variety of patients across several specialities including Respiratory, Cardiology, Endocrine and Diabetes, Renal, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and other Support Workers in the delivery of treatment across specialities such as Respiratory, Cardiology, Endocrine and Diabetes, Renal, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
  • Support patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and respiratory problems under supervision of qualified staff.
  • Carry out non‑clinical duties including clerical and housekeeping tasks to support department operations.
  • Assist patients with functional activities of daily living: dressing/undressing, domestic activities, supervising exercises, preparing patients for treatment and increasing independence using daily living aids.
  • Recognise the need to refer patients back to the Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist, identify contraindications to treatment and signs of deterioration, and communicate with the Therapists accordingly.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to obtain informed consent to treatment.
  • Assess patients’ understanding of treatment proposals and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up‑to‑date treatment notes in line with legal and departmental requirements for each patient.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Excellent communicator and team player.
  • Basic working knowledge of IT programmes.
  • Recent experience in a hospital or community setting.
  • Experience with moving and handling patients.
  • Organised and motivated with a passion for patient recovery and rehabilitation.
