Special Needs Tutor / Teacher (General FE)
Location: Dartington, Totnes
Salary: T01 £28,645.50 – T06 £41,379.00 per annum (dependent on experience)
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (50 days’ annual leave per annum)
We are looking for an experienced educator to support people with learning disabilities in a small college setting.
What you’ll do
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons for subjects such as English, Maths, and IT, working with a small team of Learning Support Assistants to maintain high standards of achievement.
- Act as a personal tutor where necessary, providing individualised 1:1 support and guidance.
- Integrate new technologies into teaching and support assistants to use them effectively.
- Continuously monitor, assess, and report on student progress, welfare and attendance, and complete other administrative procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, extra‑curricular activities, parents’ evenings and off‑site activities.
- Collaborate with the Employment Team to support students into work placements and supported internships, encouraging independence and growth.
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, health and safety at all times.
What we’re looking for
- A degree in Education or a PGCE qualification.
- Extensive experience as a SEN Tutor in a further education or similar setting, with proven competence in lesson planning, delivery, creating a positive learning environment, monitoring, and reporting.
- Significant experience working with people with learning disabilities.
- A team player who collaborates with the College Management Team, Employment Team, Administrators, and Learning Support Assistants to secure best outcomes for students.
- Proficiency with technology integration into lessons.
- Strong knowledge of statutory requirements, including Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, and Health & Safety.

Working patterns
37.5 hours per week over 5 days, 52 weeks per year. 50 days’ (10 weeks) leave per annum. Activities may be required outside regular hours such as residential trips, DofE, discos or parents’ evenings.
