We are seeking a passionate and committed Forest School Teacher to join a newly opening specialist autism school in St. Albans. The role starts in September and will support children aged 4 to 16 years with autism, speech, language, communication, developmental delay and social development difficulties.

The Role

The Forest School Teacher will create meaningful outdoor learning experiences that support children’s educational, emotional and social development. The role involves planning, delivering and monitoring creative Forest School sessions that encourage exploration, independence, problem‑solving and confidence while ensuring activities are accessible and engaging for pupils with autism and additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Forest School sessions for children aged 4 to 13 years
  • Plan activities that promote confidence, independence, and teamwork
  • Support pupils with autism, speech and language needs, and developmental differences
  • Create safe and structured outdoor learning opportunities
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support professionals
  • Monitor pupil progress and celebrate achievements

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified teacher with a Level 2 or 3 qualification as a Forest School Leader
  • Experience delivering Forest School programmes
  • Strong understanding of autism and additional needs
  • Creative, patient and enthusiastic
  • Can inspire children through practical, hands‑on learning
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team
  • Believes that outdoor education can unlock potential, develop confidence and provide children with opportunities to succeed
