Senior Infrastructure Engineer Location: Gloucester (Hybrid Working)Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 + Excellent Benefits Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in supporting, developing and enhancing their global IT infrastructure. This is a senior technical position, ideal for someone who enjoys remaining hands-on whilst taking ownership of enterprise infrastructure projects, driving technical improvements and acting as a senior escalation point across the IT function. Working within a collaborative IT team, you’ll help ensure business-critical systems remain secure, resilient and highly available while contributing to the future direction of the organisation’s infrastructure. What you’ll be doing
- Designing, implementing and maintaining secure, scalable IT infrastructure across multiple sites.
- Supporting enterprise networking, virtualisation, server infrastructure and Microsoft Azure cloud services.
- Leading the technical delivery of infrastructure projects, including upgrades, migrations and new technology implementations.
- Acting as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and major incidents.
- Performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term improvements to increase resilience and performance.
- Supporting disaster recovery planning, business continuity testing and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
- Working closely with internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and deliver robust infrastructure solutions.
- Collaborating with third-party vendors and service providers to support infrastructure services and project delivery.
- Ensuring infrastructure complies with security best practice and standards including ISO 27001, GDPR and Cyber Essentials.
- Identifying opportunities to modernise infrastructure through automation, cloud adoption and emerging technologies.
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience in senior infrastructure engineering or technical infrastructure roles.
- Strong expertise across Microsoft infrastructure, networking, virtualisation and enterprise systems administration.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience supporting VMware environments.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience delivering infrastructure projects from design through to implementation.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Knowledge of infrastructure security, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management principles would be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Desirable Certifications
- Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Administrator or equivalent)
- VMware certifications
- CompTIA Security+
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent
