Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated registered nurse to join the Dermatology Service as a Band 6 Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) based at Solihull and Good Hope Hospital, part of UHB. This key role provides expert clinical care, acting as a key worker for patients across the cancer pathway. The post holder manages a specialist caseload, delivering advanced clinical assessment, coordinating care and supporting patients from diagnosis through treatment and follow‑up. The role liaises with other health‑care professionals, including primary and tertiary teams, ensuring coordination and continuity of care from diagnosis to discharge and beyond. It also contributes to service development, education and quality improvement, ensuring care aligns with national cancer standards and best practice. The post holder acts as an expert resource for skin cancer and benign disease, collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, attends weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and represents the MDT at local and regional advisory groups.
Responsibilities
- Provide treatment and advice as per speciality and scope of practice – face‑to‑face, virtual or telephone – using agreed protocols, clinical and professional guidelines.
- Operate the skin cancer nurse‑led telephone/email information and support service to give specialist advice to patients about signs, symptoms, disease management or pathway‑related issues.
- Carry out specialist clinical practice within a designated group of patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based nursing care underpins all actions, aligning with professional values of care, compassion and respect.
- Provide a seamless, high‑quality service from referral through to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and review, referring to other specialists as required.
- Demonstrate safe, appropriate practice and specialist nursing advice using up‑to‑date knowledge and evidence.
- Act as an advocate for patients, supporting and enabling patients and carers to make informed decisions.
- Supervise, carry out and assist with clinical procedures/practice as required, ensuring optimal recovery for patients.
- Ensure effective handover of patients between health‑care professionals using a range of communication aids.
- Undertake nurse‑led clinics working in parallel with multidisciplinary team members.

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
- Evidence of post‑registration CPD or qualification in a relevant area of speciality (e.g., dermatology and/or oncology) or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6.
Desirable Qualifications
- Varied outpatient experience and undertaking nurse‑led clinics.
- Advanced communication skills or counselling.
- Holistic assessment.
Experience
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
- Significant post‑registration experience, with evidence of passion/enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice.
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and ongoing professional development/compliance.
- Demonstrated specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality.
- Experience and enthusiasm for teaching, assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
- Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary and cross‑agency environment.
- Willingness to be a practice‑based supervisor/assessor as detailed in the NMC.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in service development.
- Minor skin surgery.
- Wound care/tissue viability.
- Clinical audit activity.
