Overview
Clinical/Counselling Psychologist (Older People) 7-8a Development Post — HCPC registered psychologist sought to join the Older People services in Hertfordshire. The post may be offered at band 7 or 8a depending on experience. Closing date: 29 July 2026.
We are looking to appoint an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist to join a welcoming, psychologically minded team to provide high-quality services for Older People within Hertfordshire. The post involves specialist assessments and intervention, supervision and support of other psychology team members, and close collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will help with student placements and work closely with the local university.
The ideal candidate will value compassionate and trauma-informed services, whether in psychological therapies or neuropsychological assessment. The team emphasises continuous quality improvement and co-production with clients, and the post holder will contribute to service development and innovation, audit, research and project development within the service.
Main duties of the job
The key duties include specialist psychological assessment (including neuropsychological and risk assessments) and treatment of referred clients. The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to client formulation, diagnosis and case management planning.
Other duties include professional and clinical supervision of Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists, supporting psychological aspects of service development, evaluation, research and teaching, and maintaining standards in supervision and continuing professional development (CPD).

Person Specification
TRAINING AND QUALIFICATION
- Doctoral level qualification in clinical psychology or equivalent.
- Registered as a clinical or counselling psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Additional postgraduate training or qualification in a specific psychological therapy or neuropsychology.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience of specialist assessment and therapy with service users across a range of care settings.
- Experience with varied service user groups reflecting a range of clinical severity; ability to remain professional under distressing circumstances, including verbal abuse or threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of working with older people in a clinical role.
- Direct experience of using therapy with older people.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of applying psychological services in different cultural contexts.
- Experience of neuropsychology work.
