Looking to build your surgical nursing career in one of London’s leading Orthopaedic and Spinal unit?
Every patient recovering from orthopaedic or spinal surgery deserves expert, compassionate care that helps them regain their independence with confidence.
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse on our Orthopaedic & Spinal Ward, you’ll care for patients recovering from a wide range of planned and complex procedures, working alongside experienced consultants and a supportive multidisciplinary team. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your surgical nursing experience or take the next step in your career, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to learn, develop and make a genuine difference every day.
A little about the role
Joining our Orthopaedic & Spinal Ward means becoming part of a team that prides itself on delivering exceptional patient care while supporting one another to continually develop.
We care for patients throughout their inpatient journey, from admission through to discharge, helping them recover safely following complex orthopaedic and spinal procedures. Working closely with physiotherapists, consultants, pain specialists and the wider multidisciplinary team, we focus on delivering evidence-based care that supports both recovery and rehabilitation.
You’ll manage your own clinical workload while also working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver safe, personalised care. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills by mentoring junior staff and student nurses, contributing to service improvements and taking charge of the ward when required, with the support of experienced senior nurses.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver high quality, evidence based nursing care to orthopaedic and spinal patients.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care.
- Monitor patients throughout their recovery and respond appropriately to changes in their condition.
- Recognise and respond effectively to deteriorating patients and clinical emergencies.
- Work collaboratively with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate holistic patient care.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with NMC guidelines.
- Support patients and families throughout their inpatient journey.
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
- Supervise and support Healthcare Assistants, student nurses and junior colleagues.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a Registered Nurse who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care within a busy surgical ward.
You’ll have:
- Current NMC registration.
- Experience within Orthopaedics or Spinal Nursing
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- The ability to recognise and respond to deteriorating patients.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and organised approach to managing your workload.
- A commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
What you’ll be part of
Our 18 bed Orthopaedic & Spinal Ward provides specialist care for patients undergoing a wide range of planned orthopaedic and spinal procedures. Working within a close knit multidisciplinary team, you’ll care for patients throughout their surgical journey, helping them recover safely while supporting their rehabilitation and return to independence.
Because of the size of the ward, you’ll quickly get to know your colleagues and build strong relationships across the team. It’s a collaborative environment where everyone supports one another to deliver exceptional patient care while continually developing their own skills and experience.
At The London Clinic, everything starts with our people. Whether you’re at the bedside or behind the scenes, you’re part of something bigger, making a real difference to patients and to each other every day.
As the UK’s largest independent charitable hospital, we care for over 120,000 patients each year. What makes us different is what we do with that success. We reinvest it back into our services, our technology and, most importantly, our people. From developing innovative ways of delivering care to supporting continuous learning and career progression, we’re always looking ahead.
Based in our main hospital, you’ll be part of a team delivering care across 234 beds, 10 theatres and a 13 bed intensive care unit, working alongside more than 1,300 colleagues and over 700 consultant surgeons and physicians, all united by a shared commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.
We are incredibly proud to be the only independent healthcare provider included in the Top 10 of the Financial Times’ UK Best Employers Survey 2026.
