About the Role
Are you an experienced HGV Workshop Manager, VMU Manager, HGV Service Manager, or Fleet Maintenance Manager seeking your next leadership challenge? We are recruiting for a proactive and dedicated individual to lead a busy commercial vehicle workshop based in Didcot.
In this senior role, you will take full ownership of workshop operations, leading a skilled team of HGV Technicians to deliver outstanding performance within a fast-paced commercial vehicle maintenance environment.
Working within a modern, well-equipped facility, you will ensure high standards of productivity, regulatory compliance, and customer service, while maximising vehicle uptime and workshop efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of a busy HGV workshop and Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU).
- Manage and develop a team comprising HGV Technicians, Mechanics, Workshop Controllers, and support staff.
- Plan workshop capacity and allocate work efficiently to maximise productivity and vehicle availability.
- Monitor labour efficiency, control workshop costs, and oversee overall financial performance.
- Ensure all servicing, maintenance, and repairs comply with manufacturer and DVSA standards.
- Manage work in progress to maintain strong performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and all workshop procedures.
- Oversee workshop equipment, tooling, and facilities to maintain operational efficiency.
- Recruit, coach, develop, and mentor workshop staff to build a high-performing team.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop processes and customer satisfaction.

Skills and Experience
Essential
- Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance qualification or equivalent.
- Proven experience as an HGV Workshop Manager, VMU Manager, HGV Service Manager, Fleet Maintenance Manager, or Workshop Manager within a commercial vehicle environment.
- Strong leadership and people management abilities.
- Excellent understanding of HGV workshop operations, compliance, and fleet maintenance.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing workshop KPIs and budgets.
- Outstanding communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- HGV Class 1 driving licence.
- IRTEC accreditation.
- Experience working within a main dealer or large fleet operation.
