As a Service Assistant Casual you’ll be working in the Tiled Hall of Leeds Art Gallery and the Herbarium Café at Leeds City Museum. You will cater for visitors, prepare and serve food and drink, offer a warm welcome and uphold excellent customer service standards. You will also deliver event catering within the buildings, supporting room hire and buffet preparations as required.
Job Purpose
To assist in the provision of a high‑quality catering service at outlets which are the responsibility of Leeds Museums and Galleries.
Responsibilities
- Provide an efficient and polite catering service to customers, delivering excellent customer service.
- Assist in the preparation, display and service of food and drink.
- Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and all service areas to a high standard.
- Support the preparation and delivery of catering for room hire and evening events.
- Adhere to Health and Hygiene Regulations.
- Wear appropriate protective clothing, including rubber gloves and provided uniforms/aprons.
- Work effectively as part of a team and act on instructions from senior staff.
- Attend required training courses to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Promote the objectives of Leeds Museums and Galleries through a quality service.
- Cover duties in various areas, including covering for the Outlet Manager and Assistant Outlet Manager as needed.
- The duties are not exhaustive and may include any other duties consistent with the spirit of the post and the job evaluation outcome.
Qualifications
L2 Food Hygiene is desirable and will be offered during induction.

- Experience of working as part of a team to deliver a high‑quality customer experience.
- Ability to prepare basic ingredients such as sandwiches, salads and snacks.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people individually, in groups and at all appropriate levels.
- Ability to account for monies and card transactions.
- Ability to work effectively unsupervised.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines.
- Ability to undertake flexible working times.
- Ability to provide covering duties for the Manager and Assistant Manager as required.

- Knowledge of Health and Hygiene Regulations.

- Experience working in a similar environment carrying out similar duties.
