Peripatetic Head of Maintenance

Overview

As a Peripatetic Head of Maintenance at a Barchester care home, you’ll travel across your region to ensure we have a clean and well-maintained environment so that residents feel at home and staff can do their jobs well. Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere is part of delivering first-class care and support.

You can expect plenty of variety as a Head of Maintenance with us. You’ll handle a range of tasks within the care home building as well as in the gardens and grounds, from fixing a leaky tap to planting new bulbs. You should be comfortable working alone, leading a team and supporting the General Manager with annual budget planning. You will liaise with contractors on jobs outside the expertise of your team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the care home facilities and surrounding gardens/grounds.
• Lead and supervise maintenance tasks, working independently when needed.
• Support the General Manager with annual budget planning and cost control.
• Coordinate with contractors for work beyond the in-house team’s capabilities.
• Ensure work is carried out safely and in line with relevant regulations and resident needs.

About you

• Hands-on property maintenance experience with at least one trade skill; ability to undertake a wide range of maintenance tasks.
• Reliable and flexible regarding working hours.
• Full UK driving licence.
• IT literacy and GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent).
• Ability to work well with residents, staff, and contractors; capable of leading a team.
