Job Overview
Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We are seeking doctors wishing to gain experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a level expected of an ST3+ trainee, working closely with consultants and the multidisciplinary team. The role provides invaluable experience in busy tertiary and secondary care settings.
Main Duties
The Clinical Fellow will work on the Tier 2 on-call rota, taking on responsibilities equivalent to an ST3+ trainee. Supervised by a consultant, the Fellow will respect the roles of others in a multidisciplinary team and communicate appropriately.
The weekly timetable varies to accommodate a rolling rota of night shifts and may include sessions in antenatal clinic, delivery suite, gynaecology outpatients, gynaecology theatre, emergency gynaecology assessment unit, or other specialist sessions, depending on the individual job descriptions.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care across all clinical settings.
- Attend and manage the Tier 2 on-call rota.
- Supervise and coordinate with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Support antenatal clinic, delivery suite, outpatients, theatre, and emergency assessment unit activities.
- Participate in audit, QI, and teaching activities.
Qualifications & Training
- Medical Degree.
- MRCOG Part 1.
- MRCOG Part 3.
- Basic Adult Life Support (within past 12 months).
Training and Experience
- Completion of RCOG Specialty Training year 4 or equivalent.
- Self-confident independent performance of non-rotational instrumental deliveries (ventouse and forceps) and basic Caesarean sections.
- Experience working in the UK health system and NHS.
- Teaching experience.
- Academic achievements – publications, prizes, research.
Other Requirements
- Full registration with the General Medical Council and licence to practice.
