Key Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Marine Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in leading the day‑to‑day engineering activities within the workshop. You’ll be responsible for delivering first‑class engineering standards while supporting and mentoring junior engineers, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll lead by example, helping to drive continuous improvement while maintaining exceptional customer service standards.

  • Carry out diagnostics, servicing, repairs and installations across a wide range of leisure vessels.
  • Lead complex fault‑finding on 12v electrical systems, inboard and outboard propulsion systems.
  • Service, maintain and repair a variety of marine engines and propulsion systems.
  • Support the planning and allocation of workshop activities to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and apprentices.
  • Carry out commissioning, sea trials and testing of completed vessels.
  • Install and maintain navigation, heating, plumbing, water and ancillary marine systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality and in accordance with marine safety regulations.
  • Work closely with customers, providing technical advice and maintaining excellent relationships.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.
  • Promote high standards of housekeeping, safety and professionalism across the engineering team.

About You

  • Significant experience within marine engineering.
  • Excellent knowledge of 12v electrical systems.
  • Strong experience working on inboard and outboard engines.
  • Proven diagnostic and fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience using manufacturer diagnostic software.
  • A solid understanding of marine ancillary systems.
  • Previous experience mentoring, supervising or leading engineers.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and remain calm under pressure.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused attitude.
  • A full UK Driving Licence.
  • Confidence helming small craft during testing and sea trials.
  • Marine Engineering qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience within the leisure marine industry.
  • Experience with custom boat builds or OEM manufacturing.
  • Manufacturer accreditation with leading marine engine brands such as Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Honda Marine, Mercury or Yamaha.
