Main Duties
Selecting lifting gear – chains, slings, shackles, webbing. Check SWL and inspect for damage
Attaching the load – attach slings, balance the load, protect edges with sling protection
Communicating – give clear hand signals, radio, or whistle to the crane operator
Moving the load – guide the load safely, keep people clear, watch for overhead hazards/power lines
Paperwork – fill out lift plans, LOLER checks, sling register, toolbox talks
HSE – follow RAMS, wear PPE, maintain exclusion zones

Read lift plans and load charts
Calculate sling angles + load weight
Know different knots, hitches, and lifting accessories
Good communication + situational awareness
Work at height, in all weathers, on sites
