Overview

Helping to keep the public safe, giving people the chance to turn their lives around and building a rewarding professional career within the Probation Service.

The Probation Service offers an opportunity for annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF). New entrants are expected to join at the minimum of the pay band; your starting salary will be £28,064. The pay band may increase annually in line with Civil Service Pay guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of offenders before and after sentence, providing case‑management support in line with service procedures and practice directions.
  • Assess and manage risks, produce clear and accurate reports to tight deadlines, and provide information to courts.
  • Work closely with agencies throughout the justice system and support offenders with practical advice on housing, employment, and other needs.

Qualifications

  • No degree is required; emphasis is placed on personal qualities and experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties.
  • Good writing skills are essential – you must be able to produce clear and accurate reports to tight deadlines.
  • You should be empathetic, patient, resilient and able to communicate verbally and in writing.
