Application Modernisation Consultant (Mainframe, Gen, COBOL, Java, .NET)
Hybrid – UK, Permanent
Help organisations modernise critical business systems.
At TXP, we specialise in solving complex technology challenges. As demand for legacy modernisation grows, we are expanding our team and looking for an experienced Legacy Conversion Consultant to support major application transformation programmes across both public and private‑sector clients.
This is a unique opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with innovative automation technology, helping organisations move away from legacy platforms and embrace modern architectures.
As a Legacy Conversion Consultant, you will work with TXP’s proprietary migration tooling to analyse, convert and validate enterprise applications, while shaping the future of our conversion methodologies and automation capabilities.
What you’ll be doing
- Analysing and assessing legacy applications, primarily developed in Gen.
- Executing application migrations using TXP’s automated conversion tooling.
- Supporting the migration of applications to native COBOL environments (CICS, IMS‑DC and DB2).
- Supporting the migration of applications to modern platforms including Java, Spring Boot, .NET, Angular, and cloud technologies.
- Defining migration approaches for databases, online transactions, batch processing and user interfaces.
- Validating converted applications to ensure quality, performance and functional equivalence.
- Collaborating with architects and technical teams to develop migration strategies and delivery roadmaps.
- Supporting proposals, Statements of Work and technical solution design activities.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of TXP’s migration tooling and delivery methodologies.
What we’re looking for
- Experience with COBOL, CICS, IMS‑DC and DB2 environments.
- Knowledge of mainframe technologies and tooling including ISPF, SCLM, SPUFI and JCL.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, .NET, Angular or cloud‑native technologies.
- Background in legacy application development and support.
- Experience in application migration, re‑platforming or modernisation programmes.
- Familiarity with automation tooling, scripting or development.
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a collaborative approach to delivering successful client outcomes.
