The Role

The Medical Secretary will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Lanarkshire Weight Management Service, with particular focus on the Anti‑Obesity Medication and Specialist Weight Management expansion. The overarching aim is to improve health and reduce health inequalities.

Providing assistance to the team, developing processes, disseminating information, monitoring accuracy and implementing remedial systems, and where appropriate, supporting clerical, non‑clinical and clinical staff.

In This Key Role, You Will

  • Provide a high‑quality secretarial and administrative service for the Consultant/Associate Specialist, Nurse Specialist Teams, and PAM Practitioner to ensure efficiency in patient care.
  • Responsible for audiotyping (touch‑typing, shorthand typing) of clinical correspondence, ensuring these are typed within agreed timescales.
  • Maintain a pending system for all results and ensure these are seen by the appropriate consultants.
  • Deal with telephone and face‑to‑face inquiries from all staff groups, patients, relatives and carers, providing information, directing and prioritising queries appropriately to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.

What You’ll Bring

  • HNC/SVQ iii in Secretarial Studies/Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of a range of work procedures, including some non‑routine procedures requiring an intermediate level of theoretical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the range of secretarial procedures, including advanced keyboard skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of software systems.
