Job Summary
Residential Care Worker – Day shift (Part‑time, 28 hours per week). Provide person‑centred care to adults, ensuring safety, dignity and support for physical, emotional, and social needs based on individual care plans.
Responsibilities
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Meet the physical needs of service users (washing, bathing, toileting, dressing, personal care) and encourage self‑care and independence.
- Oversee completion of care and support plans and mandatory monthly summaries.
- Review and implement individual care/support plans and risk assessments; act as the user’s key worker.
- Meet social and emotional support needs by encouraging interaction and contact with family, carers, friends, advocates and the wider community.
- Support participation in group and individual activities, including escorting to medical appointments, outings, and annual holidays within relevant risk assessments.
- Write and maintain daily records (case recording, financial transactions, etc.) ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Promote a healthy and safe environment by attending to domestic tasks (washing, ironing linens, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms) in line with infection control guidance.
- Cook and serve meals, light snacks and drinks, respecting dietary and feeding needs and maintaining food‑handling records.
- Assist the residential leader with ordering, stock control, medication review and give medication as prescribed.
- Undertake development training relevant to service needs and keep up to date with sector legislation.
- Fulfil health and safety responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and council policy.
Qualifications
- Direct experience caring for adults, either in paid employment or voluntary setting.
- Good communication skills, including empathy and the ability to listen and act on individual needs and preferences.
- Hold a care certificate, Level2 care apprenticeship or equivalent, or willingness to work towards the qualification.
- Ability to work hours on a rota basis, including bank holidays and weekends.
Working Hours & Schedule
28 hours per week, part‑time. Shift work on a rota, covering bank holidays and weekends.
