We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the development phase of our National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) project, ‘Reconnecting Scotney’. The project will take place at Scotney Castle, Kent, and sits alongside our Visitor Infrastructure project. You will help unlock the potential to connect visitors with Scotney, engage local communities and support the natural environment.
The role is a fixed‑term contract until end of May 2027, working 37.5 hours a week. Extension to manage the Delivery phase is possible if funding is secured. Internal secondment arrangements can be considered.

What it’s like to work here
You will work as part of the National Trust Specialist Delivery Team in the London & South East region – a multidisciplinary team with specialist skills across all fields of our work. The base can be any LSE Specialist Delivery Hub; you will need to travel when required and will have the autonomy to manage your own time. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places.
What you’ll be doing
As Project Manager, you will manage the critical path for the Development Phase and, in partnership with the Grants Specialist, submit the Delivery Phase application. Key outcomes include:
- Improving access to local heritage and green space
- Preserving significant features of the Grade I listed landscape
- Protecting the environment with an orchard and climate‑resilient planting
- Diversifying audiences with meaningful experiences addressing social need
- Strengthening organisational sustainability by improving visitor experience through a new welcome hub, signage and interpretation
You will line‑manage the Senior Community, Participation and Volunteering Coordinator and the Senior Project Coordinator, coordinate with a team of specialists, and liaise with external consultants and the Scotney team.
Who we’re looking for
- Experienced project manager with a history of NLHF projects and large, grant‑funded heritage projects.
- Track record of delivering complex end‑to‑end project/programme management, including resource definition, procurement and matrix management across multiple programmes.
- Professional technical knowledge in project management, demonstrated by a recognised qualification such as AMP, PMQ, Prince or MSP.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD.
- Flexible thinker and problem‑solver, capable of negotiating, building productive networks and influencing senior leaders.
- Excellent communicator with experience managing complex, challenging situations with diverse stakeholders.
- Advocate for inclusion and capable of creating an inclusive culture.
