Band 7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist – Neurology
Are you looking for a Band 7 OT role specialising in acute stroke and neurology? We have an opportunity for a fixed 12‑month post to cover maternity leave. This would be a great opportunity for someone who looking to step up into a senior position to expand their experience, or for someone looking to specialise in acute stroke + neurology inpatients.
We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and flexible in their approach, and who is able to demonstrate excellent clinical leadership in the assessment and management of neurological patients. You will be joining a friendly, well‑established integrated therapy team, working alongside experienced colleagues and supported by a Band 8a Clinical Specialist OT. The post will be based on the 24‑bed Acute Stroke Unit, where you will be working alongside a supportive and forward‑thinking multidisciplinary team.
You must be able to demonstrate strong evidence‑based clinical knowledge and skills within the specialty of neurology, with a specialist interest in stroke. Person‑centred care and an approach which promotes self‑management are at the centre of our philosophy.
Main duties of the job
Together with the Clinical Specialist OT, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day running of the inpatient stroke service and neurology team. This will involve:
- Providing specialist assessment and intervention to a varied neurological caseload
- Ensuring high‑quality patient‑centred care
- Leading and supervising the learning and development of the stroke therapy team
- Providing training to the wider multidisciplinary team
The role plays a key part in supporting the service to sustain its SSNAP standards, working closely with other therapy specialties and stakeholders. You will be involved in developing and implementing new quality‑improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and experience, and will have the opportunity to participate in R+D as part of the role. The team has strong links across the North Central London stroke network, including with local ESD, community and rehab services.

Education + Qualifications
- Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current HCPC registration
- Demonstration of commitment to lifelong learning
- Membership of special interest group
Experience
- Experience in stroke and neurology
- Extensive experience working in an acute health setting and complex discharge planning
- Experience in supervising/teaching staff/student/volunteer
- Evidence of C.P.D. in relevant areas of practice
- Post‑registration experience relevant to clinical area
- Relevant other associated work experience
- Experience of involvement in audit/service development
- Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills and management of complex cases
- Ability to relate clinical knowledge to practice
- Ability to work as part of a team including MDT
- Good organisational skills
- Reflect and critically appraise own performance
- Effective time‑management skills and ability to prioritise case load and managerial tasks
- Highly specialist knowledge of current therapy in relevant area
- Awareness of current health issues
- Clear vision of role/commitment to specialty

- Able to work weekends in line with the Therapy 7‑day working provision
