Salary: Grade J £39,152 – £42,839 (pay award pending)

Hours: Up to 37 hours per week

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 7.4 hours per day – flexible working

Location: Codsall Community Hub – hybrid working

The role

South Staffordshire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Waste Contracts Manager to play a key role in delivering high-quality waste and recycling services across the district. Reporting to the Community and Environment Service Leader you will support the management of the Council’s waste service, lead the day-to-day management of waste contracts, and manage a small team. This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead on contract monitoring and performance management, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, legislation and industry best practice. You will work collaboratively with contractors, partner organisations, government bodies and internal stakeholders to drive service improvements, manage risk and deliver value for money. You will also contribute to service planning, budget management, procurement activities, policy development, data analysis and reporting.

The person

We are looking for an individual with experience within waste management or a related environmental service and an understanding of local authority waste collection and disposal services. You will have experience managing contracts, budgets, projects and stakeholder relationships, alongside the ability to lead and develop staff to deliver excellent customer-focused services.

You will bring:

Experience in waste management, contract management and service improvement. Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage, interpret and present complex data, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage with contractors, elected members, residents and partner organisations. Experience of budget monitoring, procurement and project delivery. A proactive and innovative approach, with the ability to identify solutions and deliver positive change.
