A young, independent woman living in Galashiels is looking for a friendly and dedicated Personal Assistant to join her small, supportive team. She lives with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and uses both a manual and an electric wheelchair, depending on the day’s activities. A Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) is also available to enable travel to appointments and social activities. Full training will be provided in the safe use of the wheelchairs and WAV.
Due to a speech difficulty, patience, good listening skills, and clear communication are essential.

Hours of Work
The role is for a minimum of 4 retained hours per week, worked on either a Wednesday or Thursday (by mutual agreement). There will also be opportunities to work additional hours to cover annual leave or sickness.
What You’ll Do
- Provide safe support with mobility, transfers, and positioning while maintaining comfort and dignity.
- Drive and accompany the client to medical appointments, social events, and community activities using the Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.
- Encourage independence and, where appropriate, suggest activities or outings that may be enjoyable.
- Assist with day-to-day tasks that help make life easier and more enjoyable.
- Provide assistance with toileting when required while out in the community.

- Understanding of the challenges associated with living with a physical disability.
- Comfortable undertaking moving and handling responsibilities and providing consistent physical support as part of person-centred care.
- Practical, reliable, and a confident communicator.
- Able to work professionally, respectfully, and discreetly within a family environment.
- A confident driver with a full manual driving licence.
Previous experience in care or moving and handling is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Why Join Us?
- £16.96 per hour
- Minimum of 4 retained hours per week
- Additional hours available to cover annual leave and sickness.
- Mileage allowance (negotiable).
- Expenses paid when accompanying the client.
- 5.6 weeks’ annual leave (pro rata).
- Up to 4 weeks’ occupational sick pay in any 12-month period after 12 months’ service, based on retained hours.
- Annual pay review each January in line with CPI inflation.

Requirements
