Workshop Manager – Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service
About the role
We are seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy for the role of Workshop Manager.
Reporting directly to the Head of Technical Services you will be responsible for the efficient management of the transport workshop, the operational equipment workshop and a team of technicians, while working closely with other departments.This role provides guidance and support for all inspection and maintenance activities carried out on fire appliances, vehicle fleet, marine assets, operational equipment and ancillary equipment. A key aspect of the role is the efficient planning and progression of scheduled work whilst maintaining an effective response to un-scheduled work to support service delivery.

As the Workshop Manager you will:
- Lead and develop teams of technicians, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise.
- Be responsible for the planning, implementation, control and recording of all schedules for both planned and unscheduled work.
- Mentor staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, always promoting safe working practices.
We are seeking a candidate who has demonstrable experience of:
- Leading, motivating and managing teams through effective communication and leadership.
- Planning, coordinating and monitoring operational workloads within a workshop, vehicle, equipment or stores environment.
- Working in a vehicle, equipment or stores environment.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations related to vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Identifying and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, performance and service delivery.
- Developing team capability through coaching, mentoring and performance management
- Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering related subject or substantial work experience relevant to the role.
