Job Description:

Lead Data Scientist/Data & Analytics – London Market Insurance

London | Hybrid

We are working with a major international insurance business that is building a new Data and Analytics capability focused on supporting commercial growth across the UK and Europe.

They are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to shape and deliver the data, analytics and AI agenda for this part of the organisation. The role will combine hands‑on technical delivery with leadership of a small team of up to five Data Scientists and Analysts.

You will take ownership of a broad programme of work, bringing together complex and fragmented data sources to create meaningful MI, analytical models and commercial insights. The outputs will be used by senior stakeholders to improve decision‑making, identify growth opportunities and increase the volume of business written across the UK and European markets.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the data and analytics programme for the UK and European business
  • Manage, develop and grow a team of up to five
  • Remain hands‑on across data exploration, modelling and analytical delivery
  • Build MI, dashboards and analytical models for commercial stakeholders
  • Assess the existing data landscape and improve how data is consolidated and used
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI and advanced analytics
  • Translate complex data into clear commercial recommendations
  • Partner with teams across broking, placement, operations, technology and data engineering

The broader team will work with insurance, client and market data across areas including pricing, placement, portfolio performance and client segmentation.

Experience required

  • Approximately ten years’ experience within the London insurance market
  • Strong experience leading data science, analytics or MI teams
  • Proven ability to deliver commercially focused analytics programmes
  • Hands‑on capability with Python or R, SQL and data visualisation tools
  • Experience building analytical or machine-learning models
  • Strong understanding of insurance data and broking processes
  • Ability to influence senior business and commercial stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating in a developing environment where the data landscape is still being established

The role offers the opportunity to build a capability with genuine visibility and influence, rather than inheriting a mature function with a fixed roadmap.
