Job Summary

The Central Production Unit (CPU) Catering Operative is responsible for supporting the preparation, production, assembly, packing, and distribution of meals within a high-volume catering environment. The post holder works as part of a team to ensure that meals are handled safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards for patients, staff, and visitors.

The Central Production Unit (CPU) Catering Operative is responsible for supporting the preparation, production, assembly, packing, and distribution of meals within a high-volume catering environment. The post holder works as part of a team to ensure that meals are handled safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards for patients, staff, and visitors.

The role involves picking and packing, stock handling, cleaning duties, and maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, and infection prevention. The Catering Operative contributes to the smooth operation of the Central Production Unit.

The post holder must follow all Food Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH, HACCP and departmental procedures while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment. Excellent teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing a high-quality catering service are essential to support patient care and service delivery across the organisation.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

We currently have four catering operative vacancies in our Production Unit based at Solihull.

1x full time vacancy in stores

Receiving deliveries and checking goods against delivery notes and purchase orders.

Storing food and non-food items safely and in accordance with food safety regulations.

Ensure codes of practice for HACCP and food safety are followed as per site training

Maintaining accurate stock records and completing relevant documentation.

Following food hygiene, health and safety, and COSHH procedures at all times.

1x Full time pot wash

Ensuring all items are cleaned to food hygiene standards before reuse.

Deep Cleaning floors, sinks, walls, drains, and other designated kitchen areas.

Following Food Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH, and Infection Prevention procedures at all times.

1x part time Deep cleaner

Carrying out deep cleaning of kitchen production, storage, and service areas in accordance with cleaning schedules.

Following Food Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH, and Infection Prevention and Control procedures at all times.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Equivalent in English and Maths
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake in the induction period

  • Relevant Catering qualifications
  • Higher Catering Education
  • Other Education

Experience

Essential

  • Health and Safety or willingness to undertake in induction period
  • Food Hygiene Regulations or willingness to undertake in induction period
  • Willingness to undertake specific competencies to meet the full requirements of the role

Desirable

  • Previous Catering Work Experience
  • Previous Hospital or Care Experience
  • Catering related knowledge
  • Allergy Regulations
